What is Level Up

Where young athletes get built.

Youth strength & performance training in San Mateo — coached for the athlete's age, never copied from an adult program.

The program

Strength and speed for growing athletes.

+ more− less

Sessions pair speed and agility work on the turf — sprint mechanics, ladders, hurdles — with coached strength training: quality movement first, load added only as the athlete earns it. Progress is measured, not guessed — speed and strength benchmarks at the start, retested as they train.

The founder

Pro fighter. Youth coach. Athlete dad.

+ more− less

Founder and head coach Jesse Jones is a retired professional MMA fighter with 15+ years building a successful fitness business — and he coaches competitive travel baseball and varsity basketball at San Mateo High School. He built Level Up, the program and the facility, because young athletes deserve training designed just for them. His own kids were the model: every detail tuned not just to make them stronger, but to get them genuinely hooked on training.

Small groups

Your athlete gets seen — never lost in a crowd.

+ more− less

Individual attention in a group setting, with a real coach running every session. We know each athlete's name, sport, and stage — and how to help them reach the next level.

Built for the sport

Basketball, baseball, softball — and every kid chasing speed.

+ more− less

The work translates: a faster first step on the court, a stronger swing in the cage, fewer nagging injuries in season. If your athlete runs, jumps, or swings, this is for them.

Part of something

Kids train side by side — and become a team.

+ more− less

Sessions run shoulder to shoulder — kids counting each other's reps, chasing each other's times, celebrating each other's PRs. It's individual performance and teamwork in the same hour, the way sport actually works. And the habits, confidence, and friendships built here follow them well past the season — into who they're becoming.

Good to know

Questions, answered.

What is a founding membership?

A locked-in rate for our first 80 memberships, sold in 4 rounds of 20. Each round's rate is a step higher than the last, and whatever rate you join at is yours for as long as you stay — even as our standard rates go up. It's our thank-you for believing early.

Is strength training safe for kids?

Yes — when it's coached right. Every session runs on Coach Jesse's program for growing athletes, in a small coached group. The "stunts your growth" myth comes from kids lifting unsupervised decades ago — today's research says the opposite: quality, age-appropriate strength work makes growing athletes more durable and less injury-prone.

What ages is this for?

Youth athletes — middle school through high school. Programming scales to the athlete.

What sports do you train for?

A lot of our athletes play basketball, baseball, and softball — the facility has a batting cage and a basketball shooting machine — and some of the strongest athletes on our floor are girls. The work translates to every sport: if your athlete runs, jumps, or swings, this is for them.

When does the new space open?

Soft opening September 1, grand opening Saturday, October 3 in San Mateo. Founding members get in first.

Can I cancel?

Yes, anytime with 30 days' notice — it's month to month, no long contract. One thing to know: cancelling ends your founding rate. As long as you stay, it never goes up.
